Robert Sargent Austin was a noted artist, illustrator, engraver and currency designer and widely considered to be one of Britain's leading mid-twentieth century printmakers. Austin was born in 1895 in Leicester, England. He studied at Leicester and at the Royal College of Art 1914-16 and 1919-22, winning the Rome Scholarship for engraving 1922. From 1924 Austin moved away from etching to line-engraving. He taught engraving at the Royal College of Art 1927-1944 and was Professor in the Department of Graphic Design 1948-55. He was elected as a member of the Royal Academy in 1949. Austin died in 1973 in Norfolk, England. Source: https://www.britishmuseum.org/
