Notes
Elizabeth (Liz) Butler was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1941. From her childhood she was interested in drawing and art, but financial bounds did not allow her the opportunity to attend art school. In 2002, following thirty years of working with Aboriginal communities through the housing sector, Butler received the Public Service Award for outstanding service to the community and continues to be committed to improved standards within Indigenous housing. On retirement from the public service Butler pursued her childhood dream of attending art school and in 2011 graduated from the Adelaide Central School of Art with a Bachelor in Visual Art (Honours). Butler's work is inspired by her life-changing experience of working with Indigenous communities and many years of travelling to the remote areas of Australia. Generally leaning toward the amalgamation of natural and artificial materials, Liz is now pursuing the combination of experimental printmaking to expand her sculptural and installation practice to convey her encounter and emotional connection to the land.
