- William Leonard Lloyd Annois was born in Malvern, Victoria in 1906 and was educated at Melbourne High School before starting an engineering career. In 1929-1930, during the Depression he attended night classes at the National Gallery School and in those years he experimented with colour lino-cutting. He produced only a few examples, one at least printed on James Flett's press. He first exhibited with the Victorian Artists Society in 1935, and between 1937 and 1940 exhibited with the New Melbourne Art Club. During the Second World War, Annois worked as a production illustrator for the Directorate of Armoured Fighting Vehicles. After travelling and studying frescoes in Italy he applied his skills and executed murals in frescoe secco on several Melbourne buildings. As a water colourist Annois painted landscapes and architecture and he also produced lithographs and etchings. Annois died in 1966. Source: https://adb.anu.edu.au/
