Notes
Bill Brown was born in Cowra New South Wales in 1945. He employs a seductive palette and he manipulates gestural marks to convey a depth of emotion and intensity. In painting in this manner his art reverberates with an evocative mood which often relates secrets, and reveals some of his innermost desires and demands. Over the years he has managed to carve an acknowledged and well deserved place in the story of non-representational art in Australia. He paints with gusto which arguably others attempt to emulate but without his earned and deserved success. Brown has held more than 20 solo commercial exhibitions and his work is held by all major Australian public art collections, including the Art Gallery of NSW, the National Gallery of Australia, State and Federal Parliament House Collections, the South Australian Art Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art and many regional art galleries and numerous corporate and private collections.
