- Notes
- Abdul-Rahman Abdullah was born in Port Kembla, New South Wales, in 1977 and trained at the Victoria College of the Arts and Curtin University. His practice explores the different ways that memory can inhabit and emerge from familiar spaces. Drawing on the narrative capacity of animal archetypes, crafted objects and the human presence, Abdullah aims to articulate physical dialogues between the natural world, spirituality and cultural identity. His work draws on his Muslim heritage that is both seventh-generation Australian and Malay. Working in sculpture, installation and drawing, Abdullah's sculptural works often feature figures, animals and home furnishings that display his trademark meticulous and refined technical skills. He uses materials such as cast resin, timber and acrylic, augmented by found domestic objects.
